COR Spring Upgrade

The COR spring upgrade for ODS shocks COR Spring Upgrade
The COR Spring upgrade has been designed to upgrade the Girvin ODS shock found on the World Cup frames [Proflex 856, 956, X-Series, 1996 Beast, 1996 Animal]. Most of these frames have suffered from fatigue of the yellow MCU's, the Micro Cellular Urethanye bumpers have eroded over the years and have gone hard and many have deteriorated beyond any use.
Fitting the Springs
We manufacture spring kits for the Girvin Vector ii ODS fork as well as for the ODS frame shock (i.e. the rear shock). The general idea is to take the shock off the bike and remove the old yellow MCU's and then fit the COR spring with its' machined end caps that fit snugly onto the shock. You can then wind down the tension to suite your riding style and the result is a shock that has a plusher action than the MCU's with better small bump sensitivity.

The kits come with instructions and you can even download the PDF file here. The instructions come with tips on how to replace the damping oil in the ODS shock so you can tune the shock to your riding style.

The COR springs are for sale online using PayPal. Click on the Products link to see our products. We are based in Stirling, Scotland, UK so shipping will take approximately 2 days to UK, 3 days to EU and between 5 and 8 days to N. America. We are always contactable through the website.

Technical Data
The springs have been designed to work with all riders. The kit comes with a bumper elastomer to prevent the shock from bottoming out harshly against the shock. The spring rate for the CORMF is roughly 190 lbs/inch and the rear CORMR is 340 lbs/inch (for the first inch of travel).

Quite a few Proflex/K2 riders have seen the painted numbers on the side of Noleen springs. These are typically the lbs/inch rate for the first inch of spring travel. The reason for measuring the first inch is that the springs will compress more, but after the natural spring limit it could damage the spring and the shocks would never compress the spring that far.

The ODS shock tends to work on a 2.75:1 ratio so for every 10mm of shock travel, the axle travels 27.5mm. Those that remember the old LTK9596 long travel kits we used to sell in the late nineties, it changed the stroke ratio to 5:1 thus requiring a much stronger spring.

The graph also shows the Noleen NR2-750 spring used on the later K2 1998 bikes. As you might be able to determine, the spring rate was only around 680-700 lbs/inch.

The kits also come with CNC'd end collars. This is to make the spring align with the shock perfectly and also replaces the existing collars that were not designed for springs.
